To start off, there are three things that I think you should know about me:
1) I am the Media Coordinator for my church (http://livelove.ca).
2) I am a full-time online student.
3) I am a social media strategist & web content writer.
I’ve done the math, and on an average week I spend roughly 70-75 hours a week in front of my computer screen. Scary, I know. But, that’s life. For me, anyway. And I wouldn’t change a thing. I absolutely LOVE school, LOVE that I get to use media to help reach people with the love of Jesus, and LOVE social media & content writing. These are my passions, and the reason I tell you these things is to give you some idea of how fundamental my laptop is to my everyday life.
So you can only imagine the complete and utter heartbreak I experienced when my laptop charger stopped working, and the agony that shook my soul when I found out that particular charger– the only charger that works with my laptop– is no longer manufactured.
Long story short, the only company worldwide that claimed to have it was a Chinese company I found on eBay that ships from Shanghai. It was my only hope, so I ordered the charger, cringing at the 23-35 estimated business days of shipping I was told it would take. From there, I continued frantically searching throughout the night for alternative solutions, until I hit my breaking point.
35 days. Thirty-five DAYS. Upon realizing how utterly screwed, for lack of a better word, I was, I did the only thing I could do– I went to bed, and I asked God. I basically said, “Hey. So, as you know, I’m screwed, and the only possible way that this can somehow work out is if you intervene and get this charger here AND make sure it works. Like, ASAP.”
I spent the next week borrowing computers day to day from friends and colleagues, and trying my best to trust that things were going to work out.
I won’t lie… it was hard. I was negative a lot of the time. I was panicked. I was worried. I was stressed beyond belief, but still trusting that things would work out, in one way or another – whether that looked like me getting my charger miraculously quickly (and it working), me somehow being able to buy a new laptop, or anything else.
So this Thursday, exactly 1 week after ordering from Shanghai, you can only imagine my freakout when UPS delivered my brand-new, fully functional charger.
And here’s the thing… I shouldn’t even be surprised. God’s got me, just like He’s got you. He always does. And while this is just one isolated incident of something working out unbelievably and inexplicably well- you can’t deny that these things really do happen all the time, and I fully believe that there’s more to it coincidental luck.
So I just wanted to share this particular story with you in hopes that it would encourage you, even just a bit. When crappy things happen, I implore you, believe for the best. And this doesn’t just apply to Christians. There is SO much power and liberation in placing your trust in something greater than yourself and in being expectant of things working out. Heck, not just working out, but even being insanely awesome. So as cheesy and cliché as it sounds: Smile. Keep your chin up. Your perception is your reality – expect greatness, receive greatness.
